Magnetic Bearing System - High Technology Solution

The magnetic bearing system is made by magnets placed in radial and axial position, connected with an electronic controller which distributes the power and reads the field data, and auxiliary bearings for resting position.

The magnetic bearing system creates an electromagnetic field which maintains the shaft in a contactless position, allowing its rotation without any friction or resistance.

The magnetic field is able to control and maintain with high precision the position of the shaft supporting the impeller.

The precise positioning of the impeller allows to reduce the air gap with the casing, and therefore the pressure losses, resulting in a compressor with higher power efficiency.

The energy required by the positioning system is very low, less than 400W, making the magnetic bearing highly competitive compared to other technologies.

The magnetic bearing controller records and stores the geometrical data. The correct position is therefore immediately restored at each start.

The magnetic bearing system with contactless and efficient control is designed for maintenance-free operation and unlimited start and stop cycles.

The magnetic bearing system can electronically adapt a damping effect on the rotational vibration, depending on the bearing type and system characteristics. This makes it possible to operate smoothly through the system’s critical speeds.

The load capacity of a magnetic bearing is independent of the rotational speed.

The auxiliary bearings included in the magnetic bearing system offer a safe resting position in case of system failure, for example when reverse rotation occurs due to valve failure.

Thanks to magnetic bearing technology, mechanical components such as the transmission, gaskets, and gearbox are no longer required; the system features a completely contactless and oil-free design.
