Fish Industry
While fish and fish products can be consumed alone they are also used as raw material in many sectors. They are high in Omega-3 and vitamin D. It has a significant place in human consumption since they are nutritious and contain vitamins and minerals that accelerate bone development. Products derived from fish are extensively used in animal feed industry, fish oil, foodstuff raw material and industrial raw material production.
Besides the fillets that are reserved for human consumption, trimmings are also processed in Integrated Fish Facilities to obtain feed raw material in forms of fishmeal, oil and hydrolysate. Thus, negative environmental impacts are minimized in such kind of plants and all products introduced to the plant are rendered into semi-finished or finished products with high added value.

Process
Fish delivered to the plants are subjected to the following processes respectively to produce fishmeal and fish oil.
Cooking; Protein content of the fish is coagulated; oil and water bounds are weakened chemically and preliminary preparation for facilitating separation is completed. Pressing Stage (Optional): Product which is turned into paste upon cooker is taken to the product pressing stage. The paste is separated into two phases as solid and liquid upon pressing. Solid phase extracted from the press is delivered to the dryers and the pressed liquid is delivered to pre-separation stage for obtaining fish oil.
Pre-Separation (Optional): Certain part of the sediment found in the liquid phase obtained through pressing process is separated by a screen system.
Decanter Centrifuge: Liquid phase which is separated from coarse sediment is introduced through decanter centrifuge to separate the remaining sediment. While decanter centrifuges employed at this stage can be used in 2-phase (solid - liquid) separation, they may also be used in 3-phase (solid - liquid - liquid) separation too. Performance of decanter centrifuges play an important role in terms of efficiency of the plants. Cake phase discharged from the decanter centrifuge is combined with the press cake and delivered to the dryer. Decanter output liquid phase is fed to the separators for concentrating.
Centrifuge Separator: Liquid phase output from decanter centrifuge is first fed to the concentrator to concentrate the oil content of the product. Concentrated oil is run through cleaning separator to obtain fully cleaned fish oil. The process is very important to prevent loss of oil through separator aqueous phase and solid discharge outlets. Drying: Solid (cake) phase output from the press and decanter is fed to the drying stage for drying and packaged in fishmeal form.

Fish trimmings are shredded into silage and then hydrolyzed with formic acid or enzyme to digest the proteins. Prepared mixture is run through fishbone separator to eliminate the coarse particles. Then transferred to mixer & heater tank, product of the hydrolysate process is processed in decanter centrifuge to separate the phases. Separated liquid phase is run through centrifuge separator to concentrate the oil and then, the concentrated oil is polished by being processed in the cleaning separator.
