HAUS became sponsor for “Olive Oil Academy” with its importance given in the olive oil sector that it has been interested for over 65 years. With the academy, it was aimed to increase and popularize knowledge in olive oil practices and raise awareness with tasting trainings.
Olive Oil Academy brought those with 30-year experience in the sector together in İstanbul, May 2019 with a skeleton crew and started its journey upon maturity of the idea that: ≈Those that were realized, but forgotten ≈Those that were desired, but could not be realized ≈And those that must be realized are required to be realized.
With the aim of finding a solution to existing information convergence by bringing all components of olive, table olive and olive oil sector and with the contribution of cooperation of University - Public - Sector: It was decided to establish an Olive Oil Academy that can provide all trainings the domestic sector needs at the first step and international sector needs at the second step in its own building and with its own staff on the basis of 2- to 5-year objective in the first year. Aim of Olive Oil Academy is to combine all players of the sector, to produce solutions for problems of the sector with common sense and develop Turkish olive cultivation and ensure the sector has the position with the honor it deserves. The first concrete steps were taken by a group of olive lovers who discussed the problems of the olive cultivation and solution ways on the Internet.
Subsequent process started with convention of people who lost their hearts on olive tree frequently and various olive cultivators held well-attended sectoral meetings in provinces and districts. These activities continued exactly on a voluntary basis by convening almost every week. Since establishment, Olive Oil Academy has set forth that Turkish olive, table olive and olive oil sector has a high growth potential at national and international level. Expected bounce both in amount/quantity and in quality awareness depends on sustainable realization of production, marketing, consumption and inspection of all olive products from garden to table within the frame of equity law and relevant legislation for all components.
Acceleration in olive cultivation, which is the first step of growth will absolutely get in return by ensuring food safety, environmental protection and conditions for free competition in marketing and increasing the volume of foreign trade; Turkey will be a great actor in world olive cultivation with high-quality table olive and olive oil production and fair trade target.
It should be remembered that correct KNOWLEDGE and correct TRAINING are required for high-quality raw material in olive production, processing techniques in marketing, high-quality components, final consumption and obtaining product with high added value in export and sectoral employment.
Primary mission of Olive Oil Academy is to lead establishment of intellectual and actual infrastructure to enable rapid growth of “National and International Olive Cultivation Sector” with main and subbranches, enhancement of structural power of national and international olive cultivation by creating a common sense and a common address between public institutions, non-governmental organizations and private sector, promotion of product and encouragement of branding.
Operations to be conducted in the Academy will contribute to development of production, consumption and trade of olive, table olive and olive oil, recording production and integration of producer, industrialist, internal and external market. It will form a basis for ensuring compliance with European Union Common Market Organization of Olive and Olive Oil and increase of competition in the world by making plans in the light of market conditions and international developments on the sector. It will submit problems of the sector to European Council for Agricultural Support and Guidance in reports and submit reports required to solve problems urgently to relevant authorities.
Olive Oil Academy performs any kind of trainings on tasting, promotion and technologies for this common platform at national and international level on the basis of awareness by insistently emphasizing ‘awareness in olive and olive oil’ with producers, tradesmen, industrialists, exporters, non-governmental organizations, universities, relevant ministries and public and research institutions.
Olive Oil Academy aims to serve with distinguished faculty members, specialists who represent their countries at the highest level in international olive and olive oil sector, employees of public and private sector who put their signatures under many achievements in their fields and do not preserve their valuable services and about hundred of academic members, international specialists, sector employees and components.
